Reasons Why Humans Suck at Life (And Why Animals Have It Figured Out)

Let’s be honest: humans are kind of a mess.

We overthink, overanalyze, and overcomplicate everything. We spend our lives chasing things we don’t actually want, worrying about things that don’t matter, and working jobs we hate to buy things we don’t need to impress people we don’t like. Meanwhile, my dog just spent ten minutes joyfully rolling in something that smelled like fermented death, and you know what? She’s living her best life.

I think animals have the secret to happiness figured out, and maybe—just maybe—the crazy cat ladies are onto something.

1. Animals Don’t Pretend to Be Something They’re Not

A dog doesn’t walk into a room and think, "Oh no, do these other dogs think I’ve put on weight? Maybe I should have skipped that extra kibble." No. A dog just is. If it wants to chase its tail, it does. If it wants to bark at nothing, it does. If it wants to fart itself awake, it does.

Humans, on the other hand, are out here curating Instagram feeds to make it look like they have their life together when, in reality, they ate a block of cheese for dinner and haven’t called their dentist in three years. Imagine the peace of mind we’d have if we just embraced who we actually are instead of trying to impress people who wouldn’t notice if we spontaneously combusted.

This is why "crazy cat ladies" have it figured out. They don’t care what society thinks. They are living in a fur-covered, tuna-scented utopia where the only judgment comes from a disgruntled tabby named Mr. Snuffles, and honestly, that seems preferable to your passive-aggressive coworkers.

2. Animals Know When to Say ‘Screw This’

Have you ever tried to move a cat when it doesn’t want to be moved? You could have the brute strength of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and that cat will still make you question every life choice you’ve ever made. Cats do what they want, when they want, and they have zero qualms about it.

Meanwhile, humans stay in jobs they hate, in relationships that make them miserable, and at social gatherings where Ann from Accounting keeps showing them pictures of her "adorable" (demonic) toddler. Animals know how to set boundaries. Humans? Not so much.

I say we take a page from the feline playbook. Next time someone asks you to do something you don’t want to do, channel your inner cat. Stare at them blankly. Knock something off their desk. Walk away without explanation. The world would be a better place if we all had a little more "screw this" energy.

3. Animals Aren’t Afraid to Ask for What They Want

A dog will sit beside you and stare into your soul until you give it a bite of your sandwich. A cat will scream at you like you’re the worst butler in the world until you open the tuna can. Animals don’t play mind games. They don’t send vague texts or drop hints. They don’t expect you to “just know” what they want. They make their needs crystal clear.

Imagine if humans did this. Imagine if, instead of sulking for three days, people just said, “Hey, I need a hug” or “Can you please stop chewing like an absolute psychopath?” The world would be a lot simpler.

Crazy cat ladies? They don’t need to play these ridiculous games because they have mastered the art of direct communication. If Mr. Snuffles is hungry, he yells. If he doesn’t want to be touched, he bites. And guess what? His needs get met.

4. Animals Live in the Moment

Your dog isn’t overanalyzing every interaction at the dog park and wondering if she came off as desperate. Your cat isn’t lying awake at 3 AM reliving that time he misjudged a jump and fell into the bathtub.

But humans? Oh, we marinate in regret like it’s our full-time job. We replay awkward conversations in our heads, worry about things that haven’t happened yet, and spend entire decades feeling like we should be somewhere other than where we are.

Animals just exist. They don’t care about the past. They don’t worry about the future. They are fully present, whether they’re napping in the sun, chasing a butterfly, or licking their own butt in public (okay, maybe we skip that part).

5. Animals Don’t Waste Time on Fake Friendships

Your dog doesn’t pretend to like the annoying Pomeranian next door just to be polite. If she doesn’t vibe with someone, she simply walks away (or growls a little, just to make it clear).

Meanwhile, humans spend years maintaining friendships out of guilt, engaging in exhausting small talk, and tolerating people they secretly can’t stand. We RSVP to parties we don’t want to go to, laugh at unfunny jokes, and force ourselves into social situations just to avoid seeming rude.

Animals? They don’t bother with that nonsense. They either like you, or they don’t. No faking, no forced smiles, no pretending to care about your new keto diet. Imagine how much simpler life would be if we all just embraced that level of honesty.

Maybe the "Crazy Cat Ladies" Aren’t So Crazy After All?

Society loves to roll its eyes at "crazy cat ladies"—the women who opt out of the script, who reject the pressure to be likable, who live on their own terms with an army of indifferent felines. But maybe they’re the ones who have it all figured out?

Think about it. "Crazy cat ladies" don’t care what you think. They don’t waste energy on pointless social games, they don’t bend over backward to be accepted, and they sure as hell don’t lose sleep wondering if Ann from accounting thinks they’re weird. Society isn’t scared of them because they’re eccentric—it’s scared of them because they’re free.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are out here overthinking, pretending, and stressing over things that won’t matter in a week. Animals? They don’t play that game. They know what they want, they walk away when they’re done, and they don’t perform for anyone.

Maybe it’s time we took a page from their book—stop chasing validation, stop forcing ourselves into things that drain us, and start living in the damn moment. And if that means rocking pajamas at noon and judging the world alongside a smug-looking cat, so be it.

Maybe it’s time we stopped laughing at the "crazy cat ladies" and started taking notes.

"Still figuring it out,

sharing what works"

XO, Line
