So, Life Handed You a Sh*t Sandwich. Now What?

Updated: Feb 6

Let’s get one thing straight: Life doesn’t give a damn about fairness.

It doesn’t care that you played by the rules. That you did the “right” things. That you worked hard, sacrificed, and tried your best. Sometimes, despite all of that, life still dumps a giant sh*t sandwich on your plate—unexpected, uninvited, and completely unappetizing.

Maybe your marriage imploded. Maybe you lost your job. Maybe your body has started betraying you in ways that make you question if it’s possessed. Maybe you just woke up one day and realized you have no f*cking idea who you are anymore.

Whatever it is, it sucks. And no amount of “good vibes only” or scented candles is going to change that.

But here’s the deal: Suffering is inevitable. Staying stuck in it is optional.

This is where Viktor Frankl, Holocaust survivor and author of Man’s Search for Meaning, drops a truth bomb:

👉 You can’t control what happens to you, but you can control how you respond.

So let’s talk about how to handle life’s sh*t sandwiches without choking on them.

Step 1: Accept That This is Reality (Even If It Sucks)

The worst thing you can do right now is fight reality.

This isn’t fair! This shouldn’t have happened! I don’t deserve this!

Maybe you’re right. But spending your energy wishing things were different doesn’t change a damn thing.

Frankl’s entire survival hinged on one thing: Radical acceptance. He didn’t waste time dwelling on why he was in a concentration camp. He focused on what he could do next.

Pain is painful enough.

Don’t add suffering by resisting the truth of your situation.

Step 2: Find Meaning in the Mess

Here’s where Frankl takes it even further:

Suffering without meaning is unbearable. But suffering with purpose? That’s where transformation happens.

So ask yourself: What can I learn from this? What new door might be opening because of this?

  • Divorce? Maybe it’s your chance to finally become the person you were always meant to be.

  • Job loss? Maybe it’s the push you needed to start that business you’ve been dreaming about.

  • Midlife meltdown? Maybe it’s the invitation to wake the f*ck up and rewrite your story.

This isn’t about slapping “good vibes” on your problems. It’s about refusing to let your pain go to waste.

Step 3: Drop the Victim Mindset (Even If You Deserve to Wallow)

Bad things happen to good people. That’s reality. And you have every right to feel pissed off, sad, or betrayed.

But here’s the question: How long do you want to stay in that place?

Frankl didn’t just survive—he found purpose inside the pain by helping others find meaning in their suffering. He realized that, even in the worst circumstances, he had one thing no one could take away: his mindset. You have that same power.

You don’t have to be happy about your situation, but you do have to decide: What’s my next move?

Step 4: Take One Small Step (Even If You’re Not Ready)

The biggest lie we tell ourselves? “I’ll take action when I feel ready.”

🚨 Spoiler: You’re never going to feel ready. 🚨

Motivation doesn’t come before action—action creates motivation.

So take one tiny step:

✔️ Apply for that job.

✔️ Set one boundary.

✔️ Go to therapy.

✔️ Start writing that book.

✔️ Sign up for the class.

✔️ Say yes to something that excites you (even if it terrifies you).

It doesn’t have to be big—it just has to be something.

Because once you start moving, even an inch, you stop being stuck.

Step 5: Screw the Script and Write a New One

If life just handed you a sh*t sandwich, here’s your wake-up call:

You don’t have to keep eating it.

You don’t have to keep living the story you were handed. You don’t have to stay stuck in the expectations, roles, and obligations that no longer fit. You don’t have to accept “fine” as your baseline for existence.

You get to decide what happens next. You get to rewrite your damn story.

So the only question is: Are you going to?

"Still figuring it out,

sharing what works."

XO, Line

This mug is for the realists, the chaos navigators, and the ones who have accepted that control is just a comforting illusion. Sip your morning caffeine while embracing the absurdity of existence—because stressing about it won’t change a damn thing.
